DIY sleeping bag

I am such a lazy DIY-er. It’s not that I don’t have the ideas, but I just don’t take the time to start. When I went to look for a sleeping bag for Maan I didn’t find any that I liked, I decided to take the plunge. So I decided to enhance a plain white one I found at Wibra (that’s where I bought the clothes hanger too) and bought textile paint and iron-on-glitter-paper at Pipoos. I am pretty happy with the result.

(And yes, I made these pictures a while ago when it wasn’t this cold and Maan slept in a thin sleeping bag. I have to admit that I am a lazy blogger too.)

Last but not least, this is my third post of this years DDW. Last year I saw the art work of Zuijderwijk/Vergouwe and seeing it again still struck a cord. I love the use of colours in their pictures, the combination of nature and the geometric shapes. It reminds me of my (amateur) attempts to add some depth to my analogue pictures a few years ago. At the time I thought geometric shapes were a temporary trend but seeing them at different expo’s at the Dutch Design week made me feel inspired yet again. That’s why I loooove the DDW. Looking forward to next year already!

At the end of October I showed you pictures of my fantastic new chairs via Flinders. The blogpost was filled to the brim with photo’s already though and I thought these pictures with Maan where too cute not to share with you.

As you know by now, Maan isn’t the best sleeper and that is why I use her daytime nap a lot of the time to do some much needed chores or take a nap of my own. When I have some energy to stay awake my favourite past time is, of course, to photograph and blog, hoping the nap is a long one. Sometimes it works out fine and sometimes I have to stop halfway. Just before I was ready taking pictures of the chairs, I heard ‘mama, máma, maaaaaaama!’ from the baby monitor. I was able to snap some last shots, luckily, so I did have enough to write a post. When she was downstairs I still put her on one of the chairs (the chairs are plastic, so small sticky apple syrup or sharp cat nails are no threat, thankfully) and as a biased mama I think these pictures are just too cute. Aren’t Maan and Schurk the perfect couple?

DDW II

The biggest surprise at the Dutch Design Week this year for me was definitely the exposition In4nite. In this project, building-material company Low&Bonar gave ten designers the opportunity to experiment with the technical material Colback, a non woven fabric. The designers used it in various creative ways. As you can see not only was the exposition inspirational, the venue was striking too: on the 6th floor of a building complex on a construction site, with a balcony and marvellous views. What a smart move.

Klaas Kuiken (remember his vases?) made a few exceptional lamps with references to natural light-sources. Tijn van Orsouw did quite the opposite and used the fabric in an ingenious curtain design to keep out sunlight. Mieke van den Hout aka Studio Mieke Lucia added a soft touch with her colour research for her acoustic panels. On top of this, I saw beautiful art objects, chairs and screens all from the same material. An impressive expo for sure.

DDW I

Last week it was time for one of my favourite weeks of the year, the Dutch Design Week. I come home inspired every year. Although I didn’t have time to see everything I wanted thanks to a feverish girl I had to stay home with on Thursday, I had a blast. Friday I toured all over Strijp with Marlous. Design, cakes, good food and lots of laughs: the perfect combination. As you can see my eyes draw to lamps and everything shiny, like a proper magpie.

Saturday I was able to lure T. and Maan to Eindhoven for a few hours. We went to Sectie C where Maan had plenty of space to run around and explore. She quite liked everything she saw, but her highlight were the fries. I get that.
