Vorige week heb ik mijn naaimachine (en een stapel retro-stoffen) onder het bouwstof vandaan gehaald om cadeautjes te maken. Een koekoeksklok voor aan Maartje’s muur. En een olifantje voor het pasgeboren zoontje van een nicht, gemaakt van oma’s gordijnen. Ik ben niet het type voor naailes en patronen, maar ik hou wel van uitproberen. Imperfectie heeft wel wat. 😉

Last week I took my sewing machine (and a pile of retro fabrics) from under the building-dust, to make some presents. A cuckoo clock for Maartje‘s wall. And an elephant for my nieces newborn son, made out of our grandma’s curtains. Sewinglessons or patterns aren’t my thing, but I like to attempt new things. Imperfection has it’s charm. 😉

Rommelkamer

Dit is de kleine kamer op de eerste verdieping. Toen we het huis kochten was dit een bedompt kamertje met bijzonder retro houtbehang. We hebben een hoop geklust, zo hebben we een nieuwe muur geplaatst zodat dit kamertje geen inbouwkast meer heeft, maar onze slaapkamer twee. Nu is het een rommelkamer, waar veel klusspul opgeslagen staat. Gelukkig ook met een kast met genoeg ruimte voor mijn verzameling lampen en behang. Ik moet iets te kiezen hebben als ik aan de inrichting beneden kan beginnen, nietwaar?

This is the small room on the first floor. When we bought our house it was a dark room with extraordinary woodprinted wallpaper. We DIY-ed a lot, we replaced the wall, so this room doesn’t have a built-in-closet anymore but our bedroom has two. Right now it is a room full of clutter, mostly tools. Luckily with also a big closet for my collection of lamps and wallpaper. I need some choice when I start decorating downstairs, don’t you agree?

Een paar weken geleden vond ik deze fantastische Agfa-camera bij de kringloop. Voor vijf euro. Er zat zelfs nog een rolletje in, dat eind jaren zeventig voor het laatst in Nederland kon worden ontwikkeld. Op internet vond ik de handleiding en ik heb de camera meteen in gebruik genomen. Zaterdag komt het eerste resultaat online!
A few weeks ago I found this fantastic Agfa-camera at a thrift store. It cost only five euro’s. It had a filmrole in it, but in Holland they can’t proceed it anymore since the late seventies. On the internet I found the manual and I started using the camera immediately. Saturday I will post the first results!

Witte wanden

Van kale naar roze muren. Van gipsplaten naar (bijna helemaal) gestucte muren en plafond. Een goed bestede vakantieweek, al heeft T. nu wel overal spierpijn.

From bare to pink walls. From plasterboard to (almost entirely) plastered walls and ceiling. A well spent holidayweek, although T. has aching muscles all over.

Tijdens mijn vakantie ging ik op bezoek bij een oud-studiegenoot die in België woont. Ze heeft een prachtig huis, met een open haard die hoger is dan ik. Een van haar schuurtjes heeft ijspegels tot de grond. Ze heeft een bos met afdrukken van reeënpootjes in de sneeuw, in haar tuin. Ze heeft een parttime boswachter, voor haar tuin. En ze heeft een moeras, in haar tuin. Echt.

During my vacation I went to visit a former fellow student who lives in Belgium. She has a gorgeous house with a fireplace higher than I am. One of her sheds has icicles to the floor. She has a forest with imprints of deers in the snow, in the back of her garden. She has a forester working parttime in her garden. And she has a swamp, in her garden. For real.

Ondertussen werd er hard doorgeklust in onze toekomstige keuken!
In the meantime there was a lot of DIY-ing going on in our future kitchen!

Vorige week hebben we met vrienden het nieuwe jaar ingeluid. Gewapend met mijn Diana-camera en fisheye-lens, heb ik wat plaatjes geschoten. Het fisheye-effect is niet overal even duidelijk, waarschijnlijk doordat ik een 35mm rolletje gebruik en de camera origineel 120mm. Maar ik ben blij met deze leuke fotoos van een geslaagde avond!
Kijk op Lomo-saturday zeker ook bij aanstichter Anki, Casper en Mireille.

Last week we welcomed the new year with a bunch of our friends. Armed with my Diana-camera (and fisheye-lense) I shot some pictures. The fisheye-effect isn’t very clear on most of the photoos, probably because I am using 35mm roles, while my camera uses 120mm regularly. But nonetheless I am happy with the nice shots from a great night!

Slaapkamer

Aan het begin van onze verbouwing (bijna vier jaar geleden) sliepen we beneden, in de woonkamer. Daar daalde al het stof dat we boven veroorzaakten neer en werd ons bed omringd door klusbenodigdheden. Nogal heftig. Boven moest veel gebeuren. In de slaapkamer hebben we bijvoorbeeld het deurkozijn verzet, de muur tussen de kamers vervangen zodat we twee kasten in de slaapkamer hebben, de 80-jaar oude deuren opgeknapt en alles opnieuw bedraad en gestuct. Poehpoeh. Maar nu hebben we een spikfonkelnieuwe slaapkamer. En ‘ie slaapt heerlijk.
At the start of our renovation (nearly four years ago) we slept downstairs, in the living room. All the dust from upstairs came down and our bed was surrounded by buildingsupplies. Quite intense. We had a lot of work ahead of us upstairs. In this bedroom for example, we moved the doorframe, replaced the wall between the bedrooms to make two closets in our bedroom, refurbished the 80-year old doors and replaced the wiring and plaster. But now we are sleeping happily in a brandnew bedroom!

Na Anki’s kijkje in ons huis, lijkt het alsof we in een bouwput wonen. Voor een deel is dat zo (de begane grond is vooral: stenen, stof en gereedschap) maar we hebben al twee verdiepingen zo goed als klaar. Vandaag laat ik met trots de zolder zien!

After Anki showed are house, it must look like we are living on a building site. Part of that is true (the groundfloor consists mostly of rocks, dust and tools) but the top two floors are mostly finished. Today I’m proudly presenting our attic!
