It has been a while since my last post, but I’ve got a good reason for being absent… we bought another home and already sold our home! All in three months time. It all went by so fast that we didn’t have time to do anything else apart from arranging things for getting our home ready for selling, trying to get a mortgage and arranging stuff for the moment we own the new home (I can hardly believe it, but we’ve bought a renovation project, yet again. It seems perfect for our family though, so I believe it will all be worth it).

On my instagram-feed and in my stories, I have shared a bit more about the process. Some of my followers asked when they could see more pictures of our home on the site of our estate agent, but our home was sold before it came online. I’ve documented our home when it was all glammed up for future owners of course, so I’ve decided to make a series of blogposts to show you different parts of our home.

Starting off today with our kitchen and scullery. My love renovated the kitchen almost entirely by himself. It is an American Kitchen by Franke. When you click on the American Kitchen tag you can see how it looked before. In the utility room went quite some blood, sweat and tears too: T. and his dad cleaned the antique tiles and they made the terrazzo skirting boards by themselves. I trapped him to be in some pictures as well, because what is a pretty house without your loved ones, right?

I promised you a few shots of the immense magnolia branch that is in my home. It only bloomed for a few days and it was almost a shame to leave the house to let it flower in solitude. Thankfully the flowers appeared in the weekend so I was able to take some photographs.

At the moment, the flowers are gone, but small green leaves start to appear. Such a cliché, but every phase is it’s own kind of beautiful.

A few weeks ago I blogged about our new Vans-shoes. After taking the pictures of the two of us, Maan asked whether she could give Schurk some treats. The two of them are so cute and these pictures are so dear to me. Maan loves our cats to death. Schurk enjoys her company too, luckily.

Schurk is pretty old, turning 16 this year. Since a couple of weeks she isn’t feeling well and we went to to the veterinarian last week. It was quite a challenge because she needed a blood test, but she was dehydrated which made drawing blood nearly impossible. The poor thing was so stressed out and came home shivering. Maan felt so sorry for her, she tried to comfort her with treats, petted her the entire evening and was talking to her constantly. She was so mad when we took her to bed to give Schurk some well deserved rest.

For now, we have to be patient and wait for the results of the test. Hoping for the best.

Flower-wise, my favourite time of the year has arrived: the time to bring magnolia into my home. I love magnolia’s and have written about my fascination for them before. I love the branches itself and the flowers have something magical, they remind me of fairytales and my grandparents’ garden. On top of that, the moment you see magnolia’s bloom, you know spring is around the corner.

Dutch as I am, I was complaining at work about the branches I saw at flowershops, because they were small and pretty expensive. A few of my colleagues surprised me with the fact that they had a magnolia tree in their garden and wanted to cut off a branch for me. One of my colleagues even told me it would be too hard to transport a branch on a bike and told me to pick it up by car. To be honest, I thought she was exaggerating, but no. Her husband cut off a branch that was as big as me. So awesome. While I was dragging it into our living room, Maan shouted: mama, a tree! A tree!

It was quite a challenge to find a spot for it, so I cut off a few smaller ones to put on my table. I will definitely show you the bigger branch later on, but first a few pictures of the branches with flower buds and -a few days later- in bloom. The marble vase was a fleamarket find some years ago and the metal vase was a gift from Flinders. The Menu tactile vase is so impressive, both shape and choice of material are so strong. But I was really trying to be minimalistic and stop the overpopulation of vases in my closets. What to do when someone offers you a chance to pick out a favourite? Everybody has their weaknesses and I am a sucker for pretty vases. Thank god for that, I love my new vase.

I love combining vintage finds with new items. The hanging lamp for example, is from the sixties (or seventies?) and I found the black and white photo of the city centre of ‘s-Hertogenbosch on a flea market years ago. The plant holder used to be a baking tray. I wasn’t planning to use it in the kitchen, but I loved the pinkish colour. It’s a perfect combination with the ivy if you ask me.

One of the latest addition to our front room are these stars. They are supposed to be Christmas decorations, but I love their colours and the way the light shines through them. Why enjoy them only in December, right?

Vases and stuff

Sometimes I struggle with instagramming and blogging, because it seems to be all about having and buying stuff. My blog was once solely about interior design and styling, and although I love cutting edge design, owning all the latest design items wasn’t what I was after. For me, inspiration is the key. I used to go thrift shopping frequently and found lots of inspiration for my home in thrift shops and flea markets. My home is filled to the brim with all the items I found along the way and I really don’t need more stuff. On top of that I hardly have time for thrifting at the moment so I promised T. that I would buy less and enjoy the objects I already have more.

Of course I do get inspired by instagram and new accounts I discover once in a while. One of these was the Catcooee account, by Catrine, designer and stylist of the Cooee Design brand. I especially love their round vases with the iconic shape and soft look. Because of my attempt to be less of a materialist, I didn’t buy them. But then I saw them on sale. I couldn’t resist. Can you blame me?

A while ago, inspiring shop All the Luck in the World celebrated their 5 year anniversary with a give away. To my surprise I won this fabulous Leopard rug by Doing Goods. Isn’t it the best thing ever? Maan and I both love it. Maan roared out loud, the first time she saw it. As did our cats, so placing it in front of the fire place as I planned, wasn’t an option. We took it upstairs and put it in Maan’s bedroom.

It looks adorable in her room so I wanted to take some pictures very badly. The room is pretty occupied though with the temporary bed we use during the nights she isn’t sleeping well. I waited for weeks hoping her nights would improve so we would be able to put the bed away. But as you can see, we still need the bed at her side. Because I did want to show you the fantastic rug, I decided to photograph the room as it is at the moment. I do think it is the perfect oppurtunity to show you a piece of our current real life: a few nights a week I (try to) sleep in this crappy bed. They say it’s a fase. If you ask me, a pretty long one though.

Een tijd geleden vierde inspirerende shop All the Luck in the World hun vijfjarig bestaan met een give away.

One of the perks of having a blog is the gifts that I receive. These hand and dish wash bottles from Dutch brand Rituals are from the Ritual of Sakura collection. You know me by now: I didn’t choose these because of how they smell, but because of the way I thought the pink would complement our kitchen. Yes, I am an interior addict and damn proud of it. My heart jumps when the bottles, jars and dishwashing brush on my sink are a match. Thankfully they smell divine too. But don’t all their products smell amazing?

The Rituals shower foams are always on my birthday wishlist, but I rarely allow myself to splurge on luxury items when it comes to cleaning products. I do have to admit, it feels luxurious to do the dishes with these soaps. A good remember to pamper myself some more.

Our living room is cluttered with kids stuff since the day Maan was born. It seems like our home gets invaded with toys a bit more with each passing day. For way too long we used her playpen for all the kids mess. When it was finally time to put the playpen away we needed to find an alternative to store all the toys and books. For quite some time T. and I were thinking about a desk for Maan in our living room and we’ve seen a lot of high priced options. We decided on a simple shelf but couldn’t figure out the best way to mount the shelf. We did buy two Hay Ypperlig stools at IKEA and a few weeks ago T used them as a stand, just to try out the hight. It turned out to be the perfect IKEA hack, we didn’t even have to drill holes in our plastered walls. I did buy two new stools for me of course, because I thought we needed some extra seats around our dinner table. And because, you know, Hay at Ikea.

We have had the desk for a few weeks now and Maan didn’t need time to adjust. She couldn’t be happier with her own little corner and uses her desk daily to draw, colour, draw and colour. Messy hair she don’t care. Cleaning up the desk is useless, these days I am happy when her books are in a row and the markers have their caps on.

Messy hair she don’t care.

I love decorating our home for the holidays, it’s a shame I didn’t find the time to blog about our Christmas decor this year (I do have some snapshots on my Instagram-feed if you are interested). After our December birthdays, we spent most days with family, friends and end-of-the-year-deadlines. A few years ago I would have hated not being able to do the things I love and would have forced myself to take the pictures, edit and blog, but now I try to just take it easy and do what feels right. If I can’t be kind to myself, who will, right?

It feels a little empty in our living room with the tree out, the ornaments, lights and candles, etc, etc, etc tucked away but I kind of like it. I really enjoy the rummaging, moving objects, styling and finally be able to blog about it!
